2 held after sister’s murder for ‘honour’ in Karachi

KARACHI: The decomposed body of a young woman was found in her home in Landhi’s Future Colony and police claimed that she was killed in the name of so-called honour allegedly by her brothers.

The Sharafi Goth police said that the body of Sumaira Iftikhar, 30, was recovered from her home. She was bludgeoned to death and the body bore marks of torture. It appeared that the body had lain there for around 25 days.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that she was murdered in the name of so-called honour.

Police have arrested the victim’s two brothers for their alleged involvement in the murder and recovered the murder weapon.

He said that police detained victim’s brothers, Yasir, 27, and Waqas, 22, who during initial interrogation ‘confessed’ to have killed their sister in the name of so-called honour.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to fulfill medico-legal formalities.

The SSP said that the father of the victim woman came to the Sharafi Goth police station on Monday night and informed the police that his daughter was missing for a long time and he went to her home, which was locked from outside, and when he broke open the lock he found his daughter dead.

The police registered a murder case against the held brothers, the SSP said.

Suspect killed, constable hurt in ‘encounter’
