543 dengue cases reported in Haripur since July 15
HARIPUR: Haripur district has showed high incidence of dengue fever during the last two and a half months as 543 residents have been infected with the mosquito-borne disease since July 15.
According to the health department, 25 patients were admitted to the district headquarters hospital but no death from the fever was reported.
Deputy district health officer Dr Sher Bahadur told Dawn that the government health facilities, including district headquarters hospital, had reported 543 dengue cases from July 15 to Oct 3.
He said most dengue cases were reported in central areas of Haripur city, Darwesh village, Khalabat Township, Serae Saleh and Shah Mohammad areas, Mohallah Eidgah, Hattar and Mankraey with Mohallah Sabzi Mandi being worst hit by the fever.
Dr Bahadur said dengue cases were discharged after complete recovery except 25 who were still undergoing treatment at the.
He said 25 patients were admitted to the hospital during the last four days.
The official said all health facilities in the district were fully equipped to receive, diagnose and treat dengue cases. “The [dengue-related] situation is under control,” he said.
Dr Bahadur said the targeted areas were fumigated as part of measures to prevent and control dengue in collaboration with the tehsil municipal administration, local government department and district administration.
He urged the residents to take precautionary measures against the disease.
CLEANLINESS DRIVE: The tehsil municipal administration here on Monday began a five-day cleanliness campaign in Khalabat Township.
Tehsil council chairman Samiullah Khan inaugurated the drive at the main intersection of the township.
Addressing sanitation staff of the TMA, he said uncollected solid waste and choked drains caused typhoid, hepatitis, stomach problems and malaria.
He said the TMA was bound to provide neat and clean environment to the residents.
“During the cleanliness drive, sanitation workers will remove heaps of solid waste and clear drains,” he said.
Meanwhile, member of the National Commission for Human Rights from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tariq Javed on Monday asked the Haripur jail’s administration to take steps to help prisoners into law abiding and productive citizens during post detention life.
He said this during a visit to the Haripur jail along with NCHR coordinator Rizwanullah Shah and officials of the prison department.
