Balochistan govt distributes compensation cheques among flood victims

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has distributed compensation cheques among the heirs of 250 people who had lost their lives in the floods that have wreaked havoc in 32 out of 34 districts of the province.

The cheques were handed over by Chief Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili in a ceremony on Monday.

Balochistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director-General Naseer Ahmed Nasar said the provincial and federal governments were paying Rs1 million each to the floods victims in the province.

Mr Nasar said the cases of remaining victims were under process and their families will soon receive compensation cheques.

So far, 336 floods and rain-related deaths were reported in Balochistan. The toll included 149 males, 80 women and 107 children while 187 people were injured.
