Two shot dead on Swabi court premises

SWABI: Two persons were shot dead on the premises of the Swabi Judicial Complex here on Tuesday.

District police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan said the attacker had been arrested and a pistol recovered from him.

Members of Swabi Bar Association said an additional sessions judge was expected to pronounce verdict in a murder case when gunshots were heard outside.

A court official said a man, who had come to appear in the court in the murder case, opened fire on his rivals, namely Afsar Iqbal and his friend, Aurangzeb.

Aurangzeb died on the spot, while Afsar was shifted to Bacha Khan Medical Complex in Shamansoor in critical condition, where he succumbed to injuries.

The cause of the incident was an old enmity as the deceased, Afsar, had allegedly killed a brother of the attacker, Faqir Gul, in 2015.

A verdict in the case was expected to be announced on Tuesday.

The lawyers held an emergency meeting and demanded judicial inquiry into the incident as to how the man armed with a pistol sneaked into the court premises.

Meanwhile, Alamgir Khan, 37, a resident of Ismalia village, was seriously injured when his rivals opened fire on him.

Also in the day, Inayat Khan, 50, and Altaf, 43, of Malakabd were injured when a wagon and a car collided near the Swabi Interchange on the Islamabad Motorway.

A Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and provided first aid to the injured and shifted them to Bacha Khan Hospital.
