Power workers protest all over country

LAHORE: Power workers observed a protest day all over the country on Tuesday under the aegis of the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union in support of their charter of demands.

The workers held protest rallies in Peshawar, Abbotabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Quetta and other cities.

At Lahore, hundreds of workers held a protest rally in front of the press club. Union secretary general Khurshid Ahmad reminded the federal and provincial governments that it was their national and constitutional obligation to ensure safe and healthy working conditions to the employees in the industry, commerce and media, by getting labour laws implemented.

He also demanded that the minimum wages should be fixed at Rs40,000.

The union leader demanded the prime minister and the federal energy minister to intervene to stop fatal and non-fatal accidents of the line staff on account of the staff shortage. He said all the vacant posts should be filled at the earliest.

The meeting was also addressed by Haji Younas, Osama Tariq, Nosher Khan, Haji Liaquat, Malik Zahid, Rana Shakoor, Muzaffar Mateen, Malik Zahoor, Liaquat Gujjar, Naveed Dogar and other union representatives.
