Hamid Zaman sent on judicial remand

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Monday turned down a request of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further physical custody of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founding member Hamid Zaman in the ‘foreign funding’ case against the party and sent him to jail on judicial remand.

The FIA produced Zaman before judicial magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk on expiry of his two-day physical remand and sought his further custody for at least seven days.

The FIA counsel argued that the custody of the suspect was required to complete the investigation.

The magistrate said what investigation the agency wanted to do when the suspect himself admitted that the money had been received in the account of the Insaf Trust. He rejected the agency’s request and sent Zaman to jail on judicial remand.

The FIA had arrested Zaman in the alleged foreign funding case against the PTI for the recovery of documentary evidence.
