Five robbers, who killed SI, shot dead in ‘encounter’
SAHIWAL: A joint team of Pakpattan and Okara police killed a gang of five robbers who shot dead a sub-inspector Sarwar Ikram in a crossfire near village Nathan Bodla, Rasoolpur, on Tuesday morning.
Police sources said a robber was killed on the spot and two police constables got critically injured in a crossfire that continued for 40 minutes. One of them - Sarwar Ikram - succumbed to his injuries.
They said Saddar Station House Officer Imran Tipu and SI Sarwar Ikram on a tip-off chased a gang of five robbers who used to loot wedding parties by blocking roads. They said during a crossfire one of the suspects was killed while four others managed their escape. The team chased the suspects and an encounter took place near Malgada Chowk. The police killed all of them in the shootout.
Police shifted the bodies to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital for autopsy. Yousufwala police have registered a murder case of Sarwar Ikram.
Sahiwal Regional Police officer Tayyab Hafeez Cheema has announced a package for the SI’s family which included a cash of Rs20.15 million, a house, job and pension for the widow and educational expenses of son Azaan (2).
SERVICE CENTRES: The regional office of Election Commission of Pakistan opened 71 one-window service centres in three districts to facilitate citizens to check final voter lists before publication.
District Election Officer Mr Shakil said 22, 20, and 29 centres were established at Sahiwal, Pakpattan, and Okara, respectively.
He said voters have the choice to transfer, include or exclude irrelevant votes or dead person votes or make corrections in data by using forms No 21, 22, and 23 available at centres.
