Revenue collection goes up by 29pc in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: The Bahawalpur regional taxation office’s revenue collection for the first quarter (July to September) of the current fiscal year (2022-23) has exceeded by 29 per cent.

Chief Commissioner of Inland Revenue Muhammad Sarmad Qureshi told Dawn on Wednesday the region collected Rs5.24 billion against its quarterly target of Rs4.07 billion from Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan and Lodhran districts.

In the corresponding period in 2021-22, the region collected Rs4.09 billion against the target of Rs3.2 billion, registering an increase of 64 percent.

The current year’s quarterly tax collection is the highest ever in the region since its inception in 2010. He added that the regional office had also opened 16 facilitation centres for taxpayers. Dr Qureshi added the inland revenue enforcement network seized 100,000 non-duty-paid cigarette packs.
