Lakki Marwat residents march for peace

LAKKI MARWAT: The residents took out a rally in Lakki city on Sunday against recent acts of terror and for maintaining peace in the district.

The rally started from Shaheed Abid Ali Chowk and culminated at Qazi Ishfaq Chowk near the main bus stand after passing through the Lakki-Tajazai Road.

People from different walks of life, including activists of ANP, JUI-F and PPP, students and members of civil society, participated.

The protesters carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans for peace.

A large contingent of police was deployed on the bus stand and around the venue of the protest to avert any untoward incident.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said Pakhtuns in general people of Lakki Marwat in particular condemned the terrorism in all its forms and manifestations as the menace had brought destruction on the soil of Pakhtuns and caused the spilling of blood of thousands of innocent people.

The speakers denounced recent incidents of terrorism in Lakki Marwat and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and asked the government to take stringent measures to eliminate terrorism and promote peace and prosperity.

Meanwhile, a man was killed over a land dispute in Eesakkhel village of Lakki Marwat on Sunday.

Police said Shaukatullah and his brother, Naimnatullah, were working in fields when their rivals, namely Shafiq and Javed, opened fire on them. They said Naimatullah died on the spot, while Shaukatullah escaped the attack.

The attackers fled the place, and the body was shifted to the Government City Hospital for autopsy, the police said, adding they had registered a case against the killers.

THESIS DEFENDED: An officer of the elementary and secondary education department has completed his PhD at the Northern University, Nowshera.

Assistant district education officer Ihsanullah Khan, who hails from Darra Pezu town of Lakki, defended his research thesis in the presence of his supervisors, external examiners, faculty members and students.

His research work pertained to effectiveness of cooperative learning jigsaw technique on students’ academic achievements in English at secondary level.

Mr Ihsanullah attributed his success to the prayers of parents, teachers’ guidance and his own hard work.
