Three-day GB desert jeep rally concludes
GILGIT: The three-day Sarfaranga cold desert jeep rally concluded in Shigar on Sunday with colourful traditional events.
In the final round, 50 competitors, including five women, participated in the jeep rally on a 75-kilometre-long track. Twelve competitors took part in the final round of bike race.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid, along with his cabinet members Raja Azam Khan, Raja Nasir Ali and Wazir Saleem, inaugurated the final round of the desert rally.
In category A, Shoaib Malik completed the 75km jeep track in 48 minutes and 27 seconds and remained the fastest driver. Sahibzada Muneeb Sultan completed the race in 49 minutes and 16 seconds and Raza Saeed in 50 minutes and 43 seconds. In the bike race, Zaigham remained the fastest biker, while Haider Shah came second and Ishaq Akhonzada third.
The chief minister later gave away medals to the winners.
A large number of local people, tourists and officials enjoyed the final round of jeep and bike race competitions in the desert.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, a cultural musical show was organised. It was participated by renowned artists from across the country. Local singers sang traditional songs.
A large number of people holding torches danced to traditional songs and waved lights in the air.
