Business leaders seek removal of trade hurdles with Iran

QUETTA: Balochistan’s business community informed the consul general of Pakistan in Iran’s Mashhad city about the hurdles being faced by Pakistani traders in the neighbouring country, hoping that he would play a role in this regard.

Speaking to the business leaders of Balochistan in a meeting with the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) on Monday through a video link, Consul General Shehryar Khan assured the businesspeople that the government was making efforts to address the issues and underlined the need for removing the existing hurdles to achieve the bilateral trade target.

Mr Khan said there would be mutual understanding and talks with the Iranian authorities to resolve the difficulties facing the business community on both sides of the border.

Earlier, QCCI President Haji Abdullah Achakzai and other senior officials informed the consul general about a lack of shelter for rice and other exported goods in Mashhad.

They also complained about the freezing of Pakistani traders’ accounts in Iranian banks, the imposition of fines on freight vehicles and other related issues and hoped the consul general would play his role in this regard.
