Govt asked to fill vacant posts in Kohat college

KOHAT: The students and the acting principal of the girls’ degree college, Lachi, have demanded of the authorities to fill the vacant posts of lecturers lying vacant since 2017.

When contacted, assistant professor Naila Naz, who is the acting principal of the college, told Dawn on phone that the college was also facing water shortage and weak internet signals, troubling students and staff in making admission online.

Ms Naz said 13 posts of teachers were lying vacant, adding there were no teachers for English, geography, Urdu, and other subjects. She said posts of chemistry and Islamiat lecturers were also lying vacant.

When contacted, Lachi tehsil chairman Ehsan Khan said the college management and students were airing their grievances through social media, which was not the proper channel, and asked them to meet him in person with their demands, so he could take up the matter with the authorities concerned. However, the college’s acting principal said the Lachi tehsil chairman and lawmakers should visit the college and see for themselves the shortcomings and try to address them.

She said she would rather go to the education directorate for early appointment of teachers to the college. She, however, asked the Lachi tehsil chairman and the local lawmakers to provide water to the college and improve internet service there.

The students complained that their future had been put at stake because they won’t be able to take part in examinations in subjects whose teachers were not available.
