IHC seeks explanation from latecomer judges

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) administration has taken action against five judges for being latecomers.

The IHC administration sought explanation from three judges including Special Judge Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan, Special Judge Accountability Mohammad Azam Khan and Chairman Intellectual Property Tribunal Shahrukh Arjumand for not being punctual and attending their respective courts after the prescribed time.

The other two judges are Special Court (Offences in Banks) Rakhshanda Shaheen and Special Judge Accountability Syed Asghar Ali were issued displeasure notes for not present in their respective courtrooms when the inspection team visited the Federal Judicial Complex.

A senior official privy to the development told Dawn that the IHC administration on the report of Member Inspection Team (JIT) took action against these officers.

He said that MIT during inspection of Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) noted that these judges did not observe the prescribed timing to convene their respective courts. FJC houses the specials courts, which include the accountability courts, the anti-terrorism court, the control of narcotics substances (CNS) court, special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and banking court of Islamabad, special court (bank and offences), environment protection tribunal and intellectual property tribunal.
