From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1947: Seventy-five years ago: Factories in Karachi
There was no edition of Dawn on Oct 26, 1947, on account of the Eidul Azha holiday. The following excerpt is taken from the Oct 25 edition.
LONDON: Arrangements have been made in Karachi for the erection of plant for the assembly and manufacture of Diesel engines, locomotives, plastic goods and hollow-ware, Mr Hussain Malik, President of the New Delhi Muslim League, who is here on an industrial mission told Dawn. He said he held manufacturing rights for Diesel engines in both Pakistan and India. He hoped factories for the manufacture of plastic goods and hollow-ware would be started in Pakistan in March 1948.
Mr Malik has also been promised by leading British manufacturers of an immediate supply of agricultural implements particularly tractors for Pakistan. He believed British industrialists and manufacturers are more inclined towards Pakistan as they fear narrow communal and racial competition from the Marwarees in India. They are also impressed by Pakistan’s potentialities. — Dawn London Office
