LWMC sacks 62 workers on French leave

LAHORE: Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) on Saturday sacked 62 employees over their prolonged absence from duty without leave, while around 200 others were dismissed from service for remaining absent during the last three months.

According to the LWMC officials, the action was taken to ensure transparency in the organisation and the department has issued a notification to dismiss 62 absentee employees and others.

As per the company’s policy, 30-day continuous absence will result in termination of service. The notification says hardworking and honest workers are a valuable asset of LWMC so all officers and workers should avoid unauthorised leave.

The company has urged the citizens to immediately report prolonged absence of its staff at the LWMC Helpline 1139.

LWMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ali Anan Qamar says the company’s operations were being digitised to ensure the best service delivery and monitoring.

He said attendance of field workers and timings of vehicles leaving and returning from the workshop were also being monitored through online applications launched as a pilot project at Outfall Workshop. All the workshops are being monitored with the help of CCTV cameras, he says. He says the digital monitoring has significantly improved the attendance of workers and operational working of the company.

The CEO says he is also conducting surprise visits to ensure cleanliness at the city’s entry and exit points. He says that provision of a clean environment to Lahorites is LWMC’s top priority and all temporary garbage collection points in Lahore should be cleaned on a daily basis.
