Hockey: 7-goal Haroon helps Vehari thrash Jhang
LAHORE, Dec 27: Three-goal in the eighth minute of the second half helped Nankana Sahib draw 3-3 against Sialkot in the Punjab Under-17 Inter-district hockey championship at the National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday. Sialkot led the first half 2-0 when two-goal Salman pumped in his first in the 10th minute followed by a goal by Shahzad in the 24th minute.
After the interval, Sialkot increased the lead in the 33rd minute as Salman scored his second goal.
Nankana retaliated strongly to earn a draw. Yasir Ali started the rally scoring a goal in the 37th minute followed by a goal each by Naeemur Rehman (41st) and Waqas Saeed (45th minute) to share points equally.
A match-winner by Mohammad Umar, who converted a penalty-corner in the 52nd minute, helped Gujranwala chalk out a 3-2 win against spirited Muzaffargarh. Gujranwala took lead when Adnan banged home a goal, converting a short-corner in the 20th minute. Muzaffargarh staged a comeback taking 2-1 lead by scoring two goals. Muhammad Naeem scored the equalizer, converting a penalty stroke in the 36th minute while Mudassar put his team 2-1 ahead in the 47th minute.
Gujranwala surged ahead once again when Ali Raza scored the equalizer in the 50th minute and two minutes later Umar scored the winner.
Rajanpur defeated Lodhra 2-1 in another low scoring match.
Rajanpur gained 2-0 lead in the first half as Rao Wasim (2nd minute) and Shahbaz Ahmed (14th minute) struck a goal each.
Lodhra reduced the margin through Imran Akram in the 35th minute.
In the other high-scoring matches, seven goals by Haroon Zaheer of Vehari taught a lesson to Jhang with a 14-0 win.
Haroon scored in the 5th, 9th, 44th, 49th, 50th, 53rd and the 59th minute. Mushtaq struck four goals in the 12th, 26th, 28th and the 45th minute. Fayyaz added two goals (29th, 58th minute) while Mohammad Shahbaz (19th minute) chipped in with a goal to complete the tally.
A hat trick by Abdul Qayuum steered Sheikhupura to a 7-0 win over Narowal who led the first half 3-0. Qayyum scored a goal in the 5th, 43rd and the 59th minute. Waqas Umar (32nd, 49th minute), Muhammad Nasir (4th minute) and Mudassar (5th minute) were the other scorers. Four goals by Tassawar Abbas helped Sargodha carve out a 9-0 win against Multan after leading the first half 5-0. Tassawar scored hat trick by scoring in the 15th, 23rd and the 24th minute. He banged home his fourth goal in the 36th minute. Muhammad Fayyaz (1st minute, 33rd minute), Imran Abbas (37th minute, 42nd minute) and Mohammad Ikram Khan (13th minute) were the other scorers.
Three goals by Umar Bhutta guided Bahawalpur to a 6-1 win over Mianwali.
He scored in the 13th , 25th and the 28th minute. Fawad Ahmad added two goals in the 24th minute and 59th minute while Kamran Masood struck one goal in the 30th minute . For the losers, Mohammad Salim scored the consolation goal in the 58th minute.
