Pakistan clinch four golds at Asian taekwondo

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan had a lucrative day on Wednesday winning four gold medals in the fourth Combaxx Asian Open International Taekwondo Championship here at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

Nusrat Bibi of Pakistan clinched gold medal defeated Afghanistan Yasmeen Azizi 2-1 in the +73kg women’s final.

In the men’s section, Pakistan’s Mohammad Hamas won the -48kg gold medal after beating compatriot Salman Khan 2-0 in the final while another home competitor Irfanullah secured gold after overcoming another compatriot Mohammad Hassan 2-0 in the -73kg decider.

Fahad Khan, another Pakistani, won the +73kg gold medal after taming countryman Syed Jarrar Pakistan 2-0 in the decider while Iran’s Abofazl Darvishi won the men’s -55kg gold medal outclassing Pakistan’s Safder Malik 2-1.

In the -62kg women’s decider, Nazneen Azizi of Afghanistan overwhelmed Pakistan’s Sara Baig 2-0.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Sherif Khairi and Danial Bozurgishoob of Iran bagged gold medals in their respective senior category contests.

Khairy beat Pakistan’s Hamza Saeed 2-0 in the men’s +87kg final while Bozurgishoob defeated compatriot Omid Hussani 2-0 in the -74kg final.
