Dur-e-Yemen Cup feature event at LRC today

LAHORE: A mediocre card of six events featuring a cup race will be the attraction for race-goers when the 10th Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way here at the Racecourse here on Sunday amid cool and hazy weather.

The feature event, the Dur-e-Yemen Cup, a class VII Division I (Class VI Division IV included) handicap race to be contested over 1,100 metres, has seven runners. On recent form, bay filly Ullswater holds an edge while chestnut filly God Gifted and colt Mera Gondal may fight for the less remunerative slots.

The main supporting event, the Khanewal Plate Class VII Division I and II handicap race to be gone over 1,100 metres, has eight runners. Five-year-old bay horse Banaras Prince, who scored a fluent victory last Sunday, looks well-placed in handicap to make it two wins on the trot. He may be followed by bay colt Al Shouq and chestnut Gondal Prince.

The second supporting event, the Khanewal Plaate Class VII Division II and III to be contested over 1,100 metres, contains nine runners and looks an open affair.

The first two races will be contested over 900 metres on the dust track, which is relatively slower on running time than the grass track. It suits some runners who put up better performance while others do not like it, hence they can falter.

The third race also to be gone over 900 metres on grass track has eight runners. The fastest among them include Samore Star, Master Prince and Chhota Pathan likely to be backed in the same order.

In all, 49 acceptors will make the field. The first race will be held at 1.00pm.
