CM reviews long march’s security

LAHORE: Chief Minister Parvez Elahi on Wednesday reviewed security arrangements for the PTI’s caravan to be launched from Toba Tek Singh, directing the police and district administration to ensure fool-proof security for it and the march to be resumed from Wazirabad on Thursday (today).

PTI Secretary General Asad Umar will lead the caravan from Toba Tek Singh that will pass through Jhang, Faisalabad, Jaranwala, Chiniot and other cities on its way to Rawalpindi.

The long march of the party, being resumed from Wazirabad, will reach Rawalpindi through its planned route. PTI Chairman Imran Khan will address the march participants through video-link.

The chief minister said the long march and its routes would be monitored through drone and CCTV cameras, adding the police commandos be deployed on the roofs of the buildings on its route. He also ordered excellent food arrangements for the officials being deputed for the march’s security, saying a police control room would work round-the-clock to monitor it.

He said focal persons had been appointed in every district on the march’s route, in consultation with the PTI leadership, adding high-level security be provided to the political leaders and the participants in the long march.

The chief minister also ordered use of a bullet-proof rostrum and shields on the container carrying the PTI leadership.

PTI leaders including Asad Umar, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Umar Ayub, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Shaukat Bhatti, besides Chief Secretary Abdullah Khan Sumbal, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) retired Capt Asadullah Khan, Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Khan Bhatti, additional IGs of operations), CTD, Special Branch, Lahore CCPO, DIG operations, and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
