T20 final to be screened at hockey stadium
LAHORE: The T20 World Cup final between Pakistan and England, which is scheduled to be played on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia, will be broadcast on large screens at the National Hockey Stadium thanks to the Sports Board of Punjab (SBP).
This was said here on Friday by former Pakistani captain Inzamamul Haq and SBP Director General Muhammad Tariq Qureshi.
Inzamam participated in the Pakistani team’s historic victory over England in the One-Day World Cup final in 1992 at the same Melbourne venue.
The same two countries will be competing for the top honour after 30 years, according to Inzamam, who said that history was being repeated. Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the semifinals of the 1992 tournament, and it happened again in this mega-event.Pakistan defeated the Kiwis by a big margin of seven wickets in the pre-final to cruise into the final. Pakistan had already won the T20 World Cup in 2009 in England, while the English team lifted it the next year, in 2010.
However, the rain may turn villain in the final as the forecast for Melbourne is four days of heavy rain from Sunday to Wednesday. Though the ICC has fixed Monday as a reserve day for the final, a four-day rain forecast imposes a threat on both Sunday and Monday.
