Death in custody Five police officials held

TOBA TEK SINGH: Due to alleged torture by Tandlianwala City police officials in Faisalabad, a drug dealer died on Tuesday.

In a case registered under sections 302, 342 and 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Police Order 155C, station house officer (SHO) Mazharul Haq and constables Nasir, Shahid, Nazir, and Wilayat were arrested. Furthermore, they were suspended from employment.

According to the FIR, complainant ASI Nazir Ahmad stated that Muhammad Irfan of the Shamspura neighbourhood was taken into custody on Nov 11 by the five police officials, but that he was not kept in the police station. When his condition worsened, the suspects placed him in the lockup after keeping him in secluded locations.

On Nov 14, the SHO and cops dumped the body at a deserted place in Tayyaba Town locality from where they made a call on 15 emergency police service through their accomplice Babar Ali that the body of an addict was lying on the ground. On the basis of the made-up call, another accomplice of accused policemen, ASI Akhtar Durraj, seized the body and shifted it to the Tandlianwala THQ hospital as an unidentified addict. Later, the body was shifted to the Faisalabad DHQ hospital for an autopsy.

The CPO has appointed the Sadar division SP as an inquiry officer into the incident.

INJURED: On Tuesday, a truck’s tie-rod broke and it collided with a school van on the Gojra-Jhang Road close to Adda Teen Pullia, injuring three students and the driver.

Driver Iftikhar Ahmad, students Nida Fatima, Hajira Ijaz, and Noaman Akram, all of Chak 415 JB, were transported by Rescue 1122 to the Gojra THQ hospital. As the truck flipped over, the driver also sustained minor wounds.

In another incident, a warden of the Faisalabad central jail was also injured by robbers on aisalabad-Jarranwala Road. Two thugs stopped Atif Hussain and stole his money, phone, and other things. When he made an effort to overcome one of them, they started shooting at him. He was taken to the DHQ medical hopistal.
