LAHORE: Retired justice Syed Afzal Haider, who passed away on Friday night, was laid to rest in a Gulberg graveyard on Saturday. He was 92.

After starting legal practice in 50s, Mr Haider was elected Lahore High Court Bar Association president in 1983 and Pakistan Bar Council vice chairman in 1988. He held many offices, including federal minister of the law, before his elevation as judge of the Federal Shariat Court in 2008.

Being an author of several books and having a vast experience of teaching law, Haider received local and international awards.
