Islamabad police officers asked not to allow relatives to stay in residences

ISLAMABAD: Officials of the capital police have been told to avoid giving accommodation to anyone other than their family members at their official residences.

According to a circular issued from Central Police Office Islamabad, “It has been observed with great concern that allottees of government accommodation are facilitating residence of their relatives other than their allowed family members i.e. spouse, children and parents.”

The police officers are not allowed to permit any other relative or individual to stay in their allotted government accommodation, it added.

It is therefore directed that all the allottees of government accommodation shall immediately discontinue this practice and only reside with their family members, the circular said, adding that in case any officer or official is found violating directions, strict departmental proceedings will be initiated against him or her including cancellation of official accommodation.

Officials of the police said that 260 government accommodations (quarters) were available for officers of the capital police from constables to deputy superintendents of police (DSPs). Assistant superintendents of police to inspector generals of police (IGPs) have different types of government accommodations in different sectors and officers’ mess at police lines, they added.

The warning was issued after it was observed that the same or a portion of the accommodation was rented out to others, the officials said, adding that it was also observed that accommodations were extended by the building structures.
