Wasa launches study to assess water table in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) will launch a study to assess the level of ground water in the garrison city.
Wasa spokesman Umer Farooq told Dawn that the agency would start the work for future requirements of the water for the city areas as we managed more than 430 tube wells in the city which were still insufficient to meet the requirement.
He said the government had launched many projects to bring water from different dams. He said in the last few months, the work on three such projects: Chahan Dam, Rawal Dam and Daducha Dam had begun.
He said that 12 million gallon daily (MGD) water will be brought from Chahan Dam to union councils in Potohar Town.
He said Rawal Dam would supply five MGD water to areas along Murree Road. Besides, old and abundant water supply line would be repaired. He said that 25 MGD water would be brought from Daducha Dam and the work on feasibility study had been started.
He said that for augmentation of the Chahan Dam source, the government had allocated Rs250 million. He said there was a dire need for starting water supply from the new source but funds for the project were insufficient and the water shortage issue would persist for another two to three years.

He said a comprehensive water supply schemes for Kehkashan Colony, Janjua Town, Sanjole Estate, Mohammadi Colony, Khyaban-i-Jinnah, Bank Colony and adjoining areas would be started.
He said that the government had included many projects in the annual development programme and the work would be started soon after release of funds.
He said that the work on the remaining projects would be started soon as the provincial government was working to overcome the water shortage and considering starting Ghazi Barotha water supply project.
