Tanoli tribe demands tehsil status for Haripur area

HARIPUR: A representative body of the Tanoli tribe has demanded the subdivision (tehsil) status for Beer area of Haripur district for development of the villages inhabited by the tribe.

The demand was made by the cabinet members of all Pakistan Tanoli Itehad through a resolution adopted at a meeting held in Khalabat Township here on Saturday.

The participants said all the then princely states were given the status of districts following their accession to the newly-created state of Pakistan after 1947, but the inhabitants of Tanoli tribe-dominated state of Amb in Hazara was deprived of the right.

They said with the accession of Amb to Pakistan, the family structure of the people of the state was dismantled and divided in scores of villages and localities of three districts of Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur. They said such a move left the Tanoli tribe in a lurch and their areas underdeveloped.

The speakers lamented that the country’s gigantic Tarbela Dam further divided the families in 1970 and the social and economic conditions of Tanolis worsened further as they were still deprived of their fundamental rights of electricity, roads, respectable jobs, health and education facilities.

The speakers said after relentless efforts of Tanolis of Hazara, the government had given the status of tehsils to Lassan Nawab Sahib in Mansehra and Sherwan in Abbottabad. They demanded the government also declare Beer as tehsil headquarters of Tanawal in Haripur district so the rights of equal development of Tanolis of Haripur could be protected.

The speakers also supported the demand of declaring Hazara as a separate province and creation of Hazara Electric Supply Company, and vowed to continue their struggle till the achievement of their goal.

Later, the participants adopted a unanimous resolution for the acceptance of their demands.

Sabir Hussain Tanoli Advocate, president of the association, , Qazi Nisar Ahmed Tanoli, Khanzada Hayat Khan Tanoli Advocate; Salim Khan Tanoli, president of the Haripur chapter of Tanoli Itehad, and Qazi Tayab Tanoli were among those who spoke.
