Kohat residents flay prolonged gas outages

KOHAT: The social and political circles here have condemned the prolonged gas outages in the city.

Chairman of southern Kyber Pakhtunkhwa gas filling stations’ body, Haji Sajid Islam told Dawn that Kohat produced 450 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas, and the total local demand was only 15MMCFD per day, but the SNGPL provided only seven MMCFD.

He said the Peshawar High Court had ruled that priority in gas provision must be given to the producing areas, but the repeated court orders were being flouted by SNGPL.

Mr Islam said demand pressure of 100 per square inch (PSI) had been approved for Kohat, but the SNGPL was giving only 40 PSI. He said the central meter system at Dhoda was turned off at night, and it took hours before the pipes were filled after it was turned on in the morning.

TRAINING INITIATIVE: The Hungarian exploration company, MOL, has launched a training programme for the local youth for promoting the local talent in its most remote operational areas.

A statement issued here said that such initiatives of the company were part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at on-the-job training programmes of qualifying local residents to become more employable when entering the market.

Through this annual programme, fresh graduates with minimum experience, holding degrees and diplomas in a range of disciplines, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics, management and social sciences have been encouraged to apply.

In his message, Ali Murtaza Abbas, MOL Group’s regional vice-president for Middle East, Africa and Pakistan, stated: “MOL Group was a responsible corporate citizen that prioritised the social welfare of local communities.”

“Living in some of the most rural and remote parts of the country for most applicants, this is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that offers practical hands-on skill application and development through valuable training and field experience.”
