From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1972: Fifty Years Ago: Tikka-Manekshaw talks
LAHORE: The Indian and Pakistani Chiefs of Army Staff, Gen. Sam Manekshaw and Gen. Tikka Khan, today [Dec 7] succeeded in resolving the deadlock over the delineation of the control line in Jammu and Kashmir. The Senior Military Commanders of the two countries will now be meeting at Suchetgarh on Dec 11 to finalise the delineation of the control line in the light of adjustments mutually agreed upon between the two Army Chiefs. …
A joint statement released at the end of the crucial meeting said: “The two chiefs were able to compose the difference that existed and are directing their senior military commanders … to … finalise the delineation of the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir as adjusted by them. This line of control will commence from the Chhamb sector and end in the Turtok sector. …” — Staff Correspondent
[Meanwhile, as reported by our staff reporter from Karachi,] Mr Altaf Gauhar, Editor-in-Chief, “Dawn” group of newspapers, was released … from the Central Jail, Karachi, after 10 months of detention. His release followed the decision of the Division Bench of the Sind and Baluchistan High Court to allow the writ petition filed on his behalf by his wife, Mrs Zarina Gauhar.
