Man held for killing wife over Rs300 dispute in Karachi

KARACHI: A young woman was murdered allegedly by her husband, who reportedly pushed her from their fourth-floor apartment balcony in the old city area on Sunday, police said.

Risala SHO Amin Solangi said that they received the information about a woman, Marium, 21, who had died after falling from the fourth floor of Zubaida Building near Lady Dufferin Hospital on Chand Bibi Road.

He said neighbours told the police that they had heard a quarrel before the incident between the couple.

The police took her husband, Muhammad Adil, in custody, who had allegedly said that he had pushed his wife from the balcony after a quarrel over some monetary dispute.

The suspect works as a security guard at a petrol station. He told police that he had given Rs1,500 to his wife at night and when he demanded back the money in the morning, the wife gave him Rs1,200, which infuriated him.

After an exchange of hot words, he pushed her from the balcony, he said.

She suffered critical injuries and died on the spot. The body was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The victim was mother of a four-year-old son.

Four ‘kidnappers’ held

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Sunday claimed to have arrested four suspects allegedly involved in kidnapping of people by posing themselves as CTD personnel.

“The CTD carried out a raid in Korangi near Chiniot Hospital and arrested Sajjad Khan, Muhammad Arbaz, Salman and Ms Shinu,” said the CTD official Chaudhry Ghulam Safdar.

He said the held woman befriended people over cell phone, invited them to a place where her accomplices kidnapped them.
