PM to inaugurate M6 motorway in Sukkur, Hyderabad today

HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to perform groundbreaking of the much awaited Hyderabad-Sukkur section of M6 motorway project in Sukkur and Hyderabad on Tuesday to launch the Rs307 billion plan.

Earlier slated for Dec 9, the ceremony was postponed due to other engagements of the prime minister. It has now been rescheduled to be held simultaneously at two destinations, which mark the beginning of construction on the last link of the motorway project that starts from Peshawar.

According to the schedule, the ceremony in Hyderabad would be held at an auditorium in the Civil Aviation Training Institute while in Sukkur, it will be organised at the IBA University.

National Highway Authority’s (NHA) M6 general manager Parkash Lohano told Dawn that first the PM would attend the groundbreaking ceremony at the IBA University in Sukkur and then come to Hyderabad the same day.

The premier would be accompanied by Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Asad Mehmood, Federal Minister for Information Technology Syed Aminul Haque and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. “The success of the project depends on land acquisition by the Sindh government, which remains slow,” said Mr Lohano.

He sought the Sindh government’s cooperation in this regard as it was of paramount importance to expedite the process.
