LHC dismisses plea against ‘embassy land sale’ in US

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday dismissed a petition challenging the alleged sale of a property owned by the Pakistan embassy in the capital of the United States.

A citizen, Asmatullah Khan, filed the petition asking the court to restrain the federal government from selling the property owned by its embassy in Washington.

The registrar office put an objection to the maintainability of the petition questioning the locus standi of the petitioner to agitate the matter. The office also questioned the non-provision of necessary documents by the petitioner.

Justice Alia Zia Bajwa sustained the office’s objection and dismissed the petition as not maintainable.

The judge observed that a petition filed on the basis of mere photocopies and press clippings could not be entertained.
