Jirga flays CM for ‘ignoring’ Kohat in uplift projects

KOHAT: A jirga comprising political, business and social circles on Monday expressed disappointment with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan for failing to launch any mega development project in Kohat despite the fact that the the district generated billions of rupees of royalty from oil and gas exploration.

They regretted that the chief minister did not announce a mega project during his several visits to the district.

They lamented that local lawmakers had promised widening the main artery in front of the Kohat Gate, but to no avail. They pointed out that a recycling plant had been inaugurated several times by lawmakers, but its construction was still awaited.

They said reconstruction work on Liaquat Memorial Hospital could not begin till date despite its inauguration by former chief minister Pervez Khattak in 2018.

They deplored that the lawmakers had been pledging to provide the required machinery to the KDA Teaching Hospital, but to no effect.

ARRESTS: The Saddar, Cantonment and Jarma police of Kohat conducted operations in the surroundings of the jail, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Togh Bala and Payan, Naway Kalay, Muhammadzai, Hangu Road and Indus highway, rounding up several criminals and their facilitators. The police also recovered five Kalashnikovs, two kalakovs, 18 pistols and seven kilogrammes of hashish from them.

Meanwhile, the Hangu police arrested a drug peddler and a proclaimed offender, and seized a Kalashnikov, three pistols, one repeater and one kilogramme hashish from them.
