ALCOHOL SALE
ALCOHOL SALE: This refers to the letter ‘Contraband consumption’ (Dec 1). Under Pakistani laws, the sale of liquor is limited to members of minorities holding permits. There is at least one retailer in DHA, Karachi, doing a roaring business six days a week. It is difficult to believe that even half of the customers there are authorised consumers. The activity has become a nuisance for the shopkeepers and area residents. Also, their property is losing value because the buyers know the problem with the area and are not interested in moving to Rahat Commercial. The authorities concerned should regulate the activity in the larger good of the area.

UNIVERSITY ROAD: The University Road in Karachi is under serious pressure round the clock for more than a month now. At least two lanes of the road have been constantly blocked owing to the Red Line bus project. There are two major public-sector universities along the road and scores of schools and colleges that cannot be accessed without either taking or crossing the road. The congestion on
the road is severe and serious. The authorities concerned should do something about such large-scale inconvenience.

MEDICINE DELIVERY: Medicines are important for patients and can be needed at any time of the day. Our drug stores usually pull the shutters down before midnight. Those that remain open beyond that time are not accessible to a large number of people, and they have to wait till the next morning to get their medicines. The government should introduce home delivery service of medicines round the clock.
