Crackdown on sale of pressure horns, fancy number plates launched

KARACHI: The city administration on Tuesday launched a crackdown on the sale and use of fancy registration number plates of vehicles, pressure horns, sirens and revolving lights on automobiles. Two shopkeepers were arrested during the drive.

Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon had on Dec 28, 2022 imposed a ban on the sale and use of pressure horns, tinted glasses of vehicles, fancy and illegal registration number plates, sirens, revolving/bar lights for two months.

He said that all deputy commissioners had been directed to take strict action against the sale and use of banned items, adding that the action was initiated on the orders of the Sindh High Court.

South Deputy Commissioner retired Captain Muhammad Saeed Laghari said that two shop owners selling the banned items were taken into custody and an FIR was registered in this regard.

He said that the shopkeepers had been warned that strict action, including registration of FIR and arrest, would be taken against those who were found violating the ban.

Traffic police teams led by officers visited various shops, stalls and vending stalls in different areas, mainly the autoparts’ markets at Tibet Centre, Saddar, M.A. Jinnah Road, Jamshed Road, Saeed Manzil etc to check the sale of the banned items, sources said, adding that the teams seized an unspecified number of such items.
