35 more centres to sell flour at Rs65 a kilo in city

KARACHI: The city administration directed the deputy commissioners of seven Karachi districts to establish five centres each in their respective districts — total 35 centres across the metropolis — for provision of flour at subsidised rate of Rs65 per kg in the city.

Official sources said that the decision was taken by Commissioner Iqbal Memon at a meeting held to review the provincial government’s measures to improve the supply of subsidised flour.

They said that all deputy commissioners, officers of provincial food department and representatives of the Flour Mills Owners Association participated in the meeting.

The commissioner directed the DCs to ensure better and easier supply of flour at official rates to the citizens.

The meeting was told that the food department had made arrangements to supply subsidised flour at Rs65 per kg in the city.

It was also informed that 4,200 tonnes of flour would be available in the city.

In district Keamari, the subsidised flour centre will be set up at Rasheedabad Chowk, Shershah Chowk, KMC Ground near Tawheed Masjid and at the main gate of DC Keamari.

In district South, it will be available at Aram Bagh Park, Bin Qasim Park, Eidgah Ground, Hazara Market Saddar, Bakhtawar Park Lyari and Garden.

In district West, centres will be in front of SSP Office, DMC Office, Phoolwali Gali Mominabad, Trucking Point and Government Girls College.

Five centres in district Central at Sector 4-B near Green Line Bus, DC Office, DMC Office Gulberg, DMC Town Office New Karachi and DMC Office Liaquatabad will be established.

In district Malir, centers were established at Govt Secondary School Kathore, AC Quaidabad office, UC office Pipri, Memon Goth and Gulshan-I-Rumi.

In district Korangi, centres were set up at Assistant Commissioners’ Offices in Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony and Model Colony and DC office, while in district East, the facilities had been established at DMC Workshop Mehmoodabad, PIB Stadium, Ashanti Bahar, Sawera Estate Agency and Mehran Marriage Hall in Gulzar-I-Hijri.

Recently, Sindh Food Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla told a press conference that subsidised flour was being provided at 198 points in Karachi.

He said that 500 to 600 bags of flour were available in mobile stalls every day and 125,000 bags of flour were being provided to the people in Karachi on a daily basis.
