Timber seized, several booked in Lower Dir raid

LOWER DIR: Deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi along with divisional forest officer Shah Khalid and police officials raided different spots in Toormang here on Wednesday night and recovered a big quantity of timber cut illegally.

Several persons were booked under the forest ordinance, 2002, while the timber loaded in seven mini trucks was seized.

The DC directed the DFO and additional assistant commissioner to check deforestation and timber smuggling in the area.

Talking to local elders, Mr Niazi said no one would be allowed to cut forest trees.

Meanwhile, the administration seized 900 bags of subsidised flour loaded in a container at a checkpost in Timergara. The flour was being smuggled from Rawalpindi to Dir.

Assistant commissioner Shehzad Khan confiscated the flour and ordered registration of a case against the persons involved in the smuggling.

The DC along with Khall tehsil chairman Ashfaqur Rahim also visited the flood-affected bridge and a water channel in Khall. Talking to locals, he said tehsil chairman’s office, TMO office and a public park would be built on the state land in Khall.

PRESS CLUB ELECTIONS: Waheed Khan Tajik has been elected as president and Habibullah general secretary of Jandol Press club for the year 2023.

The elections were held in Jandol here the other day. Other office-bearers include Noor Zaman Musakhel vice-president, Liaquat Seemab deputy general secretary, Shuaib Hadi finance secretary and Umar Khaliq chairman.
