Wazirabad attack: habeas corpus plea disposed of

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday disposed of a habeas corpus petition after Gujranwala police produced a brother and a nephew of the prime suspect in the case of attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan at Wazirabad.

The police claimed the alleged detainees were not in their custody. However, petitioner’s counsel Mian Dawood alleged the police had picked up both men from their residences on Nov 20, 2022, and had not produced them before any court of law.

Justice Aalia Neelum questioned the detention of the family members of the already arrested prime suspect, Muhammad Naveed. He warned the police that no petition should land in the court pertaining to harassment of any relative of the Wazirabad attack suspect.

With these directions, the judge disposed of the petition and set the detainees at liberty.

Sana Shahzadi, Naveed’ wife, in her habeas corpus petition alleged that Shafique and Ali Raza, a brother and a nephew of the suspect, respectively, were illegally detained by Gujranwala police, seeking their recovery.
