Drive planned against use of novel tobacco
BAHAWALPUR: The South Punjab Secretariat has decided to launch a ‘vigorous’ awareness campaign against the use of novel tobacco by the young generation.
The focus of this campaign will be schools, colleges and universities in three divisions of Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Mr Saqib Zafar here on Wednesday.
According to Saqib Zafar, the meeting decided to finalise recommendations asking the government to enact a law to impose a ban on the use of novel tobacco, launch an awareness campaign in the educational institutions and chalk out a programme to launch a crackdown on those involved in its illegal sale in the open market.
The ACS further noted that the use of tobacco among the new generation was rapidly going up as a fashion.
TWO BIKERS KILLED: Two young motorcyclists died in a road accident at 23 Mor, Khutri Bungalow, near Yazman, about 40kms from here on Wednesday.
According to the Rescue 1122, youngsters identified as Muzamil (18) and Rashid (17), were on a motorcycle when it hit a trolley that was parked along the road with a flat tyre.
As a result, Muzamil died on the spot, while Rashid succumbed to his injuries at Khutri Bungalow Rural Health Centre.
Police reached the scene to carry out legal procerdure.
TDCP: The Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan (TDCP) has resumed the operation of sight-seeing double-decker bus in the city to promote tourism.
According to the TDCP Regional Manager Tariq Rabbani, the bus would be plying daily on the city roads, taking the visitors to the historical places and monuments, including Noor Mahal, Central Library, museum.
The TDCP will charge Rs300 from each visitor for the tour.
APPOINTED: The Board of Governors of the Sadiq Public School (SPS), Bahawalpur, has approved the appointment of Mr David Dowdles as the new principal of the institution, sanctioning new terms and conditions for his service.
