Annual degree show opens at NCA

LAHORE: The degree show of the National College of Arts (NCA) opened on Friday, attracting a large number of visitors, including art lovers, students and other guests.

Through their artworks, the students threw light on sociopolitical fabric of the society and the current issues woven into aesthetics and subtleness. Almost every department came up with innovative ideas. The visual art on display has its own spring of colours and ideas depicted through various artworks.

The opening ceremony of the show of Master’s of Visual Art was held at Tollinton Market. Chief Secretary Abdullah Sumbal flanked by NCA Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Murtaza Jafri inaugurated the show. The department presented its batch of 14 students this year.

Mr Jafri appreciated the diligent efforts of the students, saying that the kind of work that was on display required not only physical but cerebral toil as well. He said the master’s programme encouraged an inquiry into theory and practice, enabling the students to find a link between both approaches during their study.

The other opening ceremony of bachelor’s degree show was held at the college’s Zahoorul Akhlaq Gallery. The show exhibited the works of young emerging artists from the departments of fine arts, visual communication design, product design, ceramic design, textile design, architecture, film & television, and musicology.

Speaking on the occasion, VC Murtaza Jafri termed the undergraduate degree show exceptional as it consisted of exclusive works of art.

The product design department students showed their creative works at the entrance of the college. Some of the students came up with innovative ideas and displayed electric bikes they had themselves made.

The show will remain open to the public till Jan 29.
