Asad Umer skips Sahiwal visit to ‘avert possible arrest’

SAHIWAL: As a ‘precautionary measure’ to avert the likelihood of arrest, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf General Secretary Asad Umer postponed his visit to Sahiwal where he was supposed to address a workers’ convention at a marquee on Wednesday afternoon.

The workers’ convention was part of a mobilisation campaign for PTI’s upcoming protest for the “Election Karao, Mulk Bachao movement” in Sahiwal division.

Talking to Dawn, PTI District President Rana Aftab said: “Asad Umer is not coming.”

PTI Vice President Chaudhry Asif Ali said party workers, district and tehsil office-bearers, ticket holders and parliamentarians are not afraid of arrests and “we will plan our protest march in each district of Punjab as per party chairman’s direction.”

He condemned the arrest of Fawad Chaudhry.

On the other hand, Rai Hasan Nawaz, a member of PTI core committee, called a meeting of party activists at Rai House Chichawatni. PTI West Punjab General Secretary Rai Murtaza and Dewan Azmat of Pakpattan attended the meeting.

The participants analysed the possible candidates for upcoming elections in Punjab.
