Wapda chairman reviews progress on Mohmand Dam

MOHMAND: Wapda Chairman Lt-Gen retired Sajjad Ghani reviewed progress on the under-construction Mohmand Dam project during a visit to the tribal district on Wednesday.

Wapda Member (Finance) Naveed Asghar Chaudhry and Member (Power) Eng Jamil Akhtar also accompanied their chairman during the visit.

The dam is being constructed on the River Swat, upstream of Munda Headworks.

Gen Ghani was briefed on the construction work on different sites, which included re-regulation pond, main dam, spillway, diversion tunnels, access tunnel, power intake, powerhouse, switch yard and irrigation system.

He directed the project management to strictly adhere to the specifications laid down for construction of the project. Reviewing the pre and post-flood situation, the Wapda chairman said that concerted efforts were needed to complete the mega project in accordance with the timelines. He was also briefed on the damages caused to the dam’s diversion system by the devastating floods last year.

At present, the construction work is progressing on all the 11 sites of the project.

Meanwhile, a five-year-old boy was seriously injured after he suffered an electric shock in Shati Kore area of Halimzai teshil on Wednesday. The injured, Sanaullah, was shifted to Peshawar’s Burn and Plastic Surgery Hospital.

He was playing near his house when he touched a power transformer lying on the ground and suffered a severe shock.
