Flood victims call for medicines, relief items

SUKKUR: Flood survivors on Monday complained to the officials concerned about the stagnant rainwater, unavailability of medicines and other basic relief items.

The flood victims came to register their complaints at a ‘khuli kachehri’ held by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), along with the district administration and officials of other departments, at Ahmedpur in Khairpur district, on the directive of the Sukkur High Court.

Those who listened to the complaints and grievances included PDMA Director Operation Imdad Hussain Siddiqui, Khairpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Sharjeel Noor Channa, Secretary Agricultural Aijaz Ali Mahesar, DG Health Muhammad Juman Bahoto and other officials of different departments, according to a district information handout.

Mr Siddiqui assured the affected people that dewatering of different areas in taluka Kingri would be done within three days.

He further said the PDMA and Sindh government were working under a chalked-out strategy to rehabilitate the flood survivors and provide them with medicines and basic relief items such as ration and tents.

He told them that the families of those who had died of flood during torrential rains would be given Rs1million for each deceased and Rs5,000 for per acre of the destroyed land according to the survey made under the declared policy.

Speaking to the flood survivors, DC Sharjeel Channa said assistant commissioners would make reports with the concerted efforts by the Sindh government, along with the departments of agriculture, health, revenue and others.
