Naqeeb’s family to challenge Rao Anwar’s acquittal in SHC

KARACHI: Ali Sher Mehsud, a brother of slain Naqeebullah Mehsud, has said that his family will challenge the acquittal of former Malir-SSP Rao Anwar and his 17 subordinates before the Sindh High Court.

The 22-year-old man told Dawn that he had travelled all the way from the Waziristan to Karachi to hear the verdict of the high-profile case on Jan 23.

“On the day, I was watching the television channels and also constantly contacting our lawyer expecting to hear good news,” he said.

“We had expectations from court. We were waiting for good news for the last five years. But, we did not get justice, as the court acquitted all the accused policemen despite my brother had been declared innocent by the court itself,” he said sadly.

He said his family will challenge the ATC decision to acquit Rao Anwar and others soon.

He vowed to even move the Supreme Court in the quest for justice.

Mr Mehsud recalled that the then army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had also visited their house and assured his father of full support in getting justice.
