ISLAMABAD, Jan 7: Pakistan managed two silver medals in the British Junior squash championship at Sheffield, according to reports available on Saturday.

Aamir Atlas Khan and Hamza Bokhari both lost in the finals of under-19 and under-13 categories played on Friday.

This was a far cry from the three gold medals Pakistan captured in the last year’s edition of the championship, courtesy Basit Ashfaq (under-19), Shohaib Hassan (under-15) and Farhan Zaman (under-13).

Shohaib and Farhan competed in the under-17 and under-15 events this year, reaching semifinals, while Basit passed the prescribed age limit.

In the under-19 final Ramay Ashour from Egypt defeated Aamir 9-0, 9-6, 9-0.

Hamza was the second Pakistani reaching the finals but was beaten by Karim Fathy of Egypt, who won the under-13 final 9-3, 9-2, 9-4.

After participating in the British Junior squash championship 2006, Pakistan squash contingent will arrive at Islamabad airport on Sunday.

The Pakistani contingent featuring in this year’s British Junior squash championship, played from Jan 2 to 6, comprised 12 boys, three girls and three officials.

Of the girls, Maria Toor Pakay reached the third round while Amna Batool Kardar was beaten in the second round.—APP
