Another woman appointed to top police post in Attock

TAXILA: Another female police officer has been appointed as the district police officer (DPO) in Attock.

Earlier during the month, the Attock district police had appointed a woman as the station house officer of a police station for the first time in its history.

Ammara Athar has become the district police officer (DPO). Her successor Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fazal Wahid was posted as SSP special branch (Rawalpindi). In a bid to ensure maximum representation of women in the field as well as in decision-making positions, the Punjab police have posted a female police officer as the DPO.

Belonging to the 36th Common Training Programme (CTP) and a graduate of business administration, the officer has already served as SSP operations Multan, SP security and additional SP investigation (with operations charge too) in different divisions of Lahore police.

She also served as the first lady DPO in the history of Punjab while serving as district police officer Bahawalnagar in 2018 and district police officer Sargodha in 2019.

SSP Ammara Athar is the first, who was allocated to the position of DPO in 2018. Apart from this, she is the first Pakistani lady, who won the Eisenhower Fellowship (Women Leadership Award) in 2015.

The Eisenhower Fellowship is an organisation made by a group of prominent American citizens. It is all about the contribution of humanity and the best leadership. She was awarded for enhancing peace in the world.

Furthermore, she belongs to a superlative family background, where her father had become the additional inspector general of police, Rana Aabid Saeed and she is not alone in this field. Her better half Rana Athar Waheed is also an SSP.

Attock district is a district in the Potohar plateau of Punjab. Created in April 1904 by the merging of tehsils of nearby districts, it was named initially as Campbellpur.
