4.3 magnitude earthquake jolts Balochistan’s Lasbela

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Balochistan’s Lasbela on Thursday morning.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the depth of the earthquake was measured at 41km with the epicentre being 56km northeast of Bela.

It occurred around 8:44am and had a longitude of 66.67 East and a latitude of 26.67 North.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Dawn.com’s correspondent said that tremors were felt in Lasbela and adjoining areas after which a number of people came out of their houses.

On January 29, a 6.3 magnitude jolted parts of Islamabad. The PMD’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre had said the depth of the earthquake was measured at 150 km with the epicentre being Tajikistan.

However, the US Geological Survey said the earthquake’s magnitude was 4.4 with a depth of 32.4 km.

The shakes were described by residents as “very strong”.
