KU teachers threaten to boycott classes

KARACHI: Teachers at Karachi University (KU) will boycott classes from Feb 6 to 13 in protest against the prolonged delay by the administration in holding selection boards for the posts advertised in 2019.

This was decided by the Karachi University Teachers’ Society (Kuts) at a meeting held on the varsity campus on Friday.

During the meeting, teachers expressed their reservations over the prolonged “unnecessary” delay in filling out posts which, they said, was resulting in acute teachers’ shortage.

“Teachers vented their frustration over this matter. They also openly criticised the irresponsible attitude of the boards secretary,” shared a Kuts representative.

According to the resolution passed during the meeting, the teachers’ society demanded immediate release of a schedule for holding selection boards pending since 2019.

“In this respect, teachers decided that they will boycott classes from Monday (Feb 6) from 11am onwards daily till Feb 13, 2023. Later, there will be a complete classes’ boycott.

“This decision will also be endorsed by the society’s general body scheduled to be held on Feb 13,” says the unanimously approved resolution.

The teachers would hold a protest daily at the administration block from Feb 13 onwards in support to their demands, it added.
