CONVERSION RATES

CONVERSION RATES: Overseas Pakistanis are suffering a lot due to the gap in official and open market foreign exchange conversion rates. To promote official channels, the government should incentivise overseas Pakistanis by offering them better conversion rates. The minister concerned has failed to do much even when he knows that remittances have taken a dip of late. It is time to think again.

TOURISM IN SINDH: I recently visited the Haleji Lake, and was pleasantly surprised to see the habitat around the area. There are some tourist huts and recreational facilities, and the route is quite good until you reach the turn that leads to the lake. The approach road is in a bad condition and needs repairs. The government should promote tourism in Sindh which will generate means of livelihood for the locals.

TEACHERS WITHOUT PAY: I am a newly recruited Junior Elementary School Teacher (JEST) in the Sindh Education and Literacy Department based in Khairpur for about eight months. The salary documents are to be signed by district, divisional and provincial educational authorities, which has not happened in all these eight months. Thousands of teachers are facing the same problem, which has made life unimaginably tough for them. The government should release our salaries as soon as possible.

GAS SHORTAGE: Shortage of gas has now become a common problem in Karachi and other parts of the country. It is actually now as common as the power shortages and outages. People face a lot

of difficulty due to irregular supply of gas, and are compelled to buy gas cylinders and compressors to meet their daily requirement. These cylinders increase domestic expenses, and need careful handling. The authorities concerned should do something promptly.
