Woman killed, 25 injured as bus falls off Dera bridge
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A woman was killed while 25 others received injuries here on Thursday when a passenger bus travelling from Quetta to Peshawar via Dera Ismail Khan fell off a bridge in Tarkh Tangai area of Darazinda sub-division on Dera-Zhob inter-provincial highway.
A Rescue 1122 spokesman Aizaz Mehmood told Dawn that the incident took place due to brake failure. As a result, a woman died on the spot while 25 other passengers including nine women sustained injuries.
As soon as the incident was reported, medical teams of Rescue 1122 reached the spot and rushed the injured and deceased to Type-D Hospital Darazinda after providing first-aid to the victims.
Later, the critically injured passengers were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan. The deceased was identified as Qalandara Bibi, 60.
Meanwhile, another passenger bus en route to Mansehra from Quetta via Dera Ismail Khan caught fire near Parwarra area of Mughalkot on the same inter-provincial highway.
On receiving the information, a Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and controlled the blaze after one hours struggle. All the passengers and their belongings remained safe due to timely action.
