Only brother of five sisters shot dead by mugger in North Karachi
KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by a lone suspected mugger in North Karachi while he along with his wife and two children was on his way to his sister’s house late on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
Khwaja Ajmer Nagri SHO Abdul Rasheed Lodhi said that Muzammil Bashir, 35, was shot and wounded by the unknown suspect in Sector-2 of North Karachi.
He said that the suspect tried to snatch the hand bag from his wife which fell on the road during the attempt. As Muzammil tried to lift the bag, the suspect opened fire on him and rode away without looting anything, the police said. Investigators have collected one spent casing of the bullet, fired with a 9mm pistol, from the spot.
The deceased was the only brother of five sisters and a resident of PIB Colony, where he owned a welding shop, said the SHO.
He was on his way to meet his elder sister, Rahila Gulzar, in Shahnawaz Bhutto Colony, he added.
The police have registered the case and started an investigation.
Ms Gulzar stated in her FIR that Muzammil’s 17-year-old daughter, who was accompanying him, informed her over phone about the incident and she along with some other relatives rushed to the spot. Muzammil was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by an ambulance. He succumbed to his wounds during treatment, she said.
