PTI Islamabad finalises plan for ‘court arrest drive’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Islamabad has finalised its strategy for ‘court arrest drive’ under which initially leaders and workers will hold a sit-in in front of a police station for arrest. If they fail, 357 leaders and workers, who are already on bail, will contact courts for withdrawal of their bail applications.

In a meeting presided over by former MNA Ali Nawaz Awan, it was decided that leaders and workers will participate in the court arrest drive. Former parliamentarians, including Asad Umar and Raja Khurram Nawaz, as well as hundreds of party workers have already given assurance that they will participate in the drive.

Talking to Dawn, Ali Nawaz Awan said the decision was made during the meeting of the the PTI Islamabad’s advisory council. “Meetings have already been held at the union council and district levels in which hundreds of workers have gotten their names registered to court arrest,” he said.

When asked if there was any plan to break the law or commit a criminal offence to get arrested, Mr Awan said Section 144 was already imposed in the federal capital, under which people could not gather at one place, so they would hold a sit-in outside one of the police stations of the federal capital for arrest.
